Joseph B. Bullock

Welcome! I am a Visiting Assistant Professor at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. I have also taught in the Philosophy Departments at Austin Community College and at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. I work on ancient Greek and Roman philosophy, with primary interests in ancient skepticism and science. My dissertation answered the question of how Pyrrhonian skeptics can consistently practice their skepticism while also engaging in scientific inquiry and learning technical skills.

My current research focuses on the nature of skeptical inquiry and how that inquiry interacts with the skeptical suspension of judgment. I am also interested in how ancient philosophers dealt with issues in social epistemology, including norms of disagreement, the nature of expertise, and the cause(s) of ἐποχή.
